About Dogpile
If you had a choice between a single-person search party, or a search team of
half-a-dozen, which would you choose? Yep, us too. Why not put six search engines
to work on something in the same time it takes to use one? This is what we call
metasearch.
Dogpile puts the power all the leading search engines – Google, Yahoo!, Live Search,
and Ask – together in one search box to deliver the best combined results. The process
is more efficient and yields more relevant results.
Aren't all search engines pretty much the same? Funny, we thought that too, but they
aren't. In fact, different search engines often return different search results for
the same query. Based on everything from how information is arranged on a web page,
to what each search engine pinpoints as most relevant, search results can vary widely
across each search provider.
Our time is important to us too. So, we had an idea to bring together the Web's best
search engines in one place and deliver the most comprehensive and relevant results,
and metasearch was born. The solution is an efficient, single-search-box engine that
makes things easier for all of us. Especially when you learn that our special
technology removes duplicates and analyzes the results to ensure the best results are
always on top of the pile.
Dogpile Search & Rescue
Dogpile.com is on a mission to help rescue pets. We call it our Search & Rescue
program. When you search the Web on Dogpile, a portion of revenue generated will be
donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(ASPCA®). Whether your searches are conducted
directly from the Dogpile site, from a Dogpile desktop toolbar, or a Dogpile widget
on a social networking page, a portion of the revenue generated will help animals in
need. The more you search, the more you can help us rescue pets and reach our ultimate
goal of raising $1 million by the end of 2009. Search & Rescue is an exciting
opportunity for all pet lovers.
At Dogpile, we’re passionate about the welfare of animals. We believe in helping pets,
and we know many of our loyal users do too.
Dogpile Search & Rescue is just the latest
of our pet-affinity initiatives. In December 2007, Dogpile raised $25,000 for the
Humane Society though the
Trouble Helmsley campaign.
In August 2008, we partnered with
Petfinder.com,
the leading online pet adoption site in the world, to create the
Petfinder Adoptable Pet widgets.
So Go Fetch! Together we can help rescue pets.
Oh, and the name Dogpile?
It's traditional in Rugby for players to come together and pile on one another. This is
exactly what Dogpile metasearch technology does – it brings together the best results
from the Internet's top search engines, including Google, Yahoo!, Live Search, and
Ask.com, as well as providing authoritative content from Kosmix and Fandango to provide
users with a richer search experience.
From there, it was only natural that we find a mascot for the Dogpile team. We adopted
Arfie
to chase down the most relevant results for searchers. Arfie is a virtual know-it-all
and is always eager to please.
Pretty compelling story, huh? We saved the best for last. Dogpile was named top
consumer search engine by J.D. Power & Associates in 2006 and 2007. We're not ones to
brag, but our rankings were pretty high – it’s nice to be recognized for work you enjoy
and produce so tirelessly.
